Vulcan Shield Global to Establish High-Tech Alumina Fiber Manufacturing Plant in Békéscsaba, Hungary
We are pleased to announce that Vulcan Shield Global is moving forward with a major strategic investment in Europe: the development of a state-of-the-art alumina fiber manufacturing facility in Békéscsaba, Hungary.
This new site will support Europe’s growing demand for advanced materials, particularly in high-temperature and high-performance applications where alumina fiber plays a critical role. Continuous alumina fiber textiles and yarn production will begin next year, with full fiber capabilities scheduled for completion in 2027.
Alumina fiber is a key enabling material for next-generation Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) used across a wide range of sectors, including:
Aerospace – thermal-resistant structural components and CMC reinforcement
Automotive – high-temperature parts for EVs and advanced engine systems
Communications – materials with excellent radio-wave permeability paired with high modulus
Electronics – components requiring thermal stability and insulation performance
Beyond its industrial impact, the project will deliver substantial economic value to the region. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to create multiple job opportunities across production, engineering, and support functions. We will also partner closely with local universities and research institutes to foster innovation and develop a strong technical talent pipeline.
This investment represents our long-term commitment to strengthening Europe’s advanced-materials ecosystem while ensuring a resilient, secure, and forward-looking supply chain for oxide continuous fibers.
More updates will follow as development progresses.
